Julia Stiles Denies Breaking Up ‘Dexter’ Couple Michael C. Hall & Jennifer Carpenter; Divorce Filing Finally Official

Julia Stiles may have shared a budding on-screen romance with her “Dexter” co-star, Michael C. Hall, but the actress said she played no part in Hall’s real-life divorce from fellow series star Jennifer Carpenter, who officially filed for divorce from Hall on Thursday.

“I have absolutely nothing to do with the split between Michael and Jennifer,” Julia said in a statement issued to Access Hollywood on Thursday. “We are good friends and enjoyed working together. This is a personal matter between them, and we should respect their privacy.

“Although I too prefer to keep my private life, private – I felt compelled to dispel the rumors I was somehow the cause for this matter,” the actress added.

broke the news on Monday that Hall and Carpenter were separating after two years of marriage.

In a joint statement to Entertainment Weekly, reps for the couple confirmed the split, noting it was amicable.

“Having been separated for some time, Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall have filed for divorce,” the statement noted.

Carpenter officially filed divorce papers on Thursday in Los Angeles. In her filing, she cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. She also listed the official date of the couple’s separation as August 9, 2010.

According to the documents obtained by Access, Carpenter is requesting that the court award her spousal support, as well as have Hall pay for any attorney fees.

The couple has no children.

Julia joined the cast of the popular Showtime series during the recently concluded fifth season as recurring guest star Lumen Pierce, a rape and torture victim whom Dexter Morgan (Hall) rescues and helps seek revenge on her captors.

Both Stiles and Hall received Golden Globe nominations earlier this week for their work. The entire “Dexter” cast received a joint ensemble acting nomination from the Screen Actors Guild Thursday morning.
