Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens will be summer lovin’ and having blast in a live televised broadcast of “Grease.”
Fans will see Julianne doing the hand jive as Sandy when the special airs in 2016 on Fox.
“‘Grease’ is one of the movies that made me want to be an entertainer, and I have literally been waiting my whole life to play Sandy,” Julianne said in a press release. “My siblings and I watched it and played it out over and over when we were kids. This is my dream role and performing it live on television will be one of the most thrilling opportunities I’ve had in my career so far.”

Former “High School Musical” star Vanessa will head to the hallways of Rydell High as Rizzo.
“Being Rizzo is something I’ve never imagined, and I love that because it will be a new challenge,” Vanessa added. “She is such an iconic character that continues to transcend generations. I cannot wait to bring her to life on live television. I’m going to be a Pink Lady!”

Two-time “Dancing With the Stars” champ Julianne’s musical credits include “Rock of Ages,” “Burlesque” and “Footloose.” She also released a country music album in 2008. When the hit dancing show returns in the spring, Julianne will serve as a judge for the second straight season.
Vanessa is also no stranger to the musical genre. Besides “HSM,” the triple threat starred in a stage production of “RENT” at the Hollywood Bowl in August 2010. She is slated to make her Broadway debut in “Gigi” later in 2015.
Tentatively titled “Grease: Live,” the musical production is scheduled to air Sunday, January 16, 2016 at 7PM ET on Fox, the network announced at Saturday’s TCAs.
