Kanye West took issue with NBC’s “Today” show, over showing a clip of his infamous VMA interruption, during a pre-taped interview with Matt Lauer, which aired Thursday morning. A clip of the rapper interrupting Taylor Swift at the VMAs was shown as he responded to President George W. Bush’s reaction to the rapper’s 2005 rant where he said the President “didn’t care about black people,” – and Kanye did not like getting interrupted.
“Yo, how am I supposed to talk if you’re gonna run this thing in the middle of my talking?” Kanye said.
“It’s under, you won’t be hearing it,” Matt said.
“I am hearing it while I am trying to talk,” Kanye continued as Matt asked the producers to remove the sound.
“Please don’t let that happen again,” the rapper added.
Following the interview Kanye took to his Twitter, expressing his frustration.
“let me tell you how they did me at the Today show… I went up there to express how I was empathetic to Bush because I labeled him a racist and years later I got labeled as a racist… While I was trying to give the interview they started playing the “MTV” under me with audio!!!!!!! I don’t mess with Matt Lauer or the Today Show … and that’s a very nice way for me to put it!… HE TRIED TO FORCE MY ANSWERS. IT WAS VERY BRUTAL AND I CAME THERE WITH ONLY POSITIVE INTENT…. I feel very alone very used very tortured very forced very misunderstood very hollow very very misused,” the rapper said in a series of Tweets.
Before the interview aired on Thursday, Lauer defended the show’s decision to run the Taylor Swift clip, saying, “During an interview, when somebody references a place or an event, we run the tape. There was nothing inappropriate about it. We do it all the time.”
