Kevin Jonas & Danielle Gear Up For Reality Show; Talk Home Life, Her Dad & Frankie Jonas

Kevin Jonas and his wife, Danielle Jonas, are opening their lives up to reality TV cameras for the new E! show, “Married To Jonas,” and fans are about to see a unique side to the famous musician on the series – his penchant for DIY.

“I’m really good with a guitar. A hammer — not so much,” Kevin told AccessHollywood.com on Wednesday at an E! luncheon at the Television Critics Association summer tour in Beverly Hills, referring to how his passion for do-it-yourself projects has translated into mixed success.

“That’s a big part… of it,” Kevin continued of an angle of the show, which overall looks at the pop star settling into a life of domesticity with his wife of nearly three years. “There’s a lot of me trying to do that stuff and I actually take pride in it because I feel like it’s ownership in something, and I feel empowered when I do it. I really enjoy it. “

So far, Kevin’s had success with putting in trees outside their home and less success with a basement surface.

“I put all the flooring down in our basement… wood flooring. I tried and I did a pretty good job. There’s some weird cuts in a couple of places, but it’s pretty good,” he said.

“I [slung] a carpet over it,” Danielle added.

“Yeah, she did put a carpet over it. And then planting trees, some are bigger than others and some are not exactly the ones we ordered, but hey, they look great,” Kevin chimed in.

The new show, which premieres August 19 after “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” also features Danielle’s family, including her father, who Kevin said is a big character.

“America will fall in love with her father,” the JoBro explained. “He needs to be on ‘Fashion Police’ with Joan Rivers after one of the episodes. He told Danielle – she walked out in a yellow dress — and he said, ‘You look like a No. 2 pencil!’”

Filming Danielle’s family also helped Kevin enjoy a bit of a prom experience, something he missed out on in his younger years while travelling the world with his superstar band The Jonas Brothers.

“In the midst of everything going on, her youngest sister… graduated high school, so they have the prom, we’ve got graduation, we’ve got big life moments happening for her family and we’ll get to tackle those things and help out,” he said.

Kevin’s family will feature into the show too, including the littlest Jonas – Frankie.

“I love that kid,” Kevin told Access. “We’re 13 years apart, so it’s amazing to see the dynamic between me-Joe-Nick and then, there is Frankie and it’s very cool to see.”

There is a serious side to the show too. The couple confirmed they had moments that got heated on camera.

“Fighting happens in marriage. If it didn’t, it’d be kind of strange. And it’s communication. It’s resolving things,” Kevin said. “This show actually allowed us to learn to communicate even better than we did before.”

A wholesome pop star, Kevin said fans will get to see a more mature side to him, like a man planning a family.

“You can’t just say, ’Oh, you want to have a kid, sure, let’s start trying,’” Kevin explained of future plans to grow their family, especially as he wants to be present and help his wife through pregnancy one day

“I have to say, ‘All right, well I can be in these countries during these months. I might not be home or there might be scheduling conflicts,’” he continued. “There’s a great deal of planning that we would have to do.”

“Married To Jonas” premieres Sunday, August 19 at 10/9c on E!
