Kevin McKidd Expecting Christina & Owen To Reunite In Grey’s Anatomy Season 9

The “Grey’s Anatomy” cast hasn’t yet returned to set to start filming Season 9, but Kevin McKidd, who plays Dr. Owen Hunt, has a sneaking suspicion that Sandra Oh’s Dr. Christina Yang will survive the Season 8 finale plane crash.

“I hope she does. If she does, I’m sure Owen will be parachuting in there to pull her out,” he laughed with Access Hollywood as he promoted his newest film, the animated feature “Brave.”

As “Grey’s” fans know, several members of the Seattle Grace team were on a plane that crashed in the woods in the Season 8 finale, including Christina, Meredith, Derek, Mark, Arizona and Lexie, the latter of which lost her life as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

So far, Christina looks pretty good – she was one of the few walking around and seemingly without major bodily injury following the incident, and Kevin is optimistic she’ll survive and the couple will thrive when reunited.

“I think they’re gonna be OK. Nobody’s telling me, but I do think they’re the most complicated, in a way, of the couples, and the most tortured of the couples a lot of the time,” he said. “On paper, they shouldn’t work as a couple, and that’s what I love about how they’ve written Christina and Owen — that they really get inside the heads of these two characters and sort of go, ‘Why are these people even together?’ And when they are, there’s a chemistry there that seems to work. And they struggle on… And I do think they’re going to be happy and good for each other.”

In addition to “Brave” from Pixar, which is due out on June 22, Kevin has an album of Scottish folk music in the works, hitting iTunes later this month.

“[It’s] a very small project that I’ve been working on with a friend of mine for two years… with a lot of people from my hometown,” he said. “I do play guitar on all the songs. I sing lead vocal on about four of the songs on the album.”

Kevin said the project is close to his heart, and pays tribute to a family member.

“It’s kind of a testament to my grandfather who was a great entertainer and singer in my hometown and to the people of my home area, and all the profits are going to go to Save the Children,” he added.
