Kim Kardashian: Divorce Was ‘Not An Easy Decision’; Kris Humphries ‘Devastated’ Over News

Kim Kardashian is speaking out following news that she is filing for divorce from Kris Humphries after only 72 days of being married.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to end my marriage,” Kim said in a statement released to Access Hollywood on Monday.

“I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision,” the 31-year-old’s statement continued. “I had hoped this marriage was forever but sometimes things don’t work out as planned.”

Adding, “We remain friends and wish each other the best.”

Kris also spoke out about the split on Monday, saying he wants to fix their relationship.

“I love my wife and am devastated to learn she filed for divorce,” he said in a statement to Access. “I’m committed to this marriage and everything this covenant represents and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make it work.”

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, a rep for Kim confirmed the split to Access on Monday morning.

In her divorce filing, Kim cites “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce and the date of separation is listed as today, Oct. 31, 2011. The reality star is asking that Kris pay for his own lawyer fees and that she’ll do the same. She also asks the court to reject any attempt by Kris to get spousal support.

Last week, Kim’s brother, Rob Kardashian, addressed rumors that his sister and new brother-in-law were having relationship woes telling Access, “My sister is completely happy, my family’s never been happier, she just got married so she should be happy.”

On Monday afternoon, Kim’s sister, Khloe, Tweeted, “Thank God for family. We are strong and we will only become closer! I love YOU”

Sister Kourtney also Tweeted on Monday, writing, “Our sister is going through a difficult time but we’re a close family and are sticking together like always… We appreciate everyone’s kindness and support. @KimKardashian, we love you.”
