Kristin Cavallari Reveals Why She Called Off Her Wedding To Jay Cutler In 2011

Kristin Cavallari knows how to listen to
her instincts.

The former reality star has opened up about
why she called off her first wedding to now-husband Jay Cutler, and how she and
the Chicago Bears quarterback ultimately found happily ever after.

“If something doesn’t feel right,
I act on it. It’s just who I’ve always been,” the 29-year-old shared
in her new book, “Balancing
in Heels: My Journey to Health, Happiness, and Making It All Work,” according to
excerpts reported by multiple outlets on Friday including Us Weekly and E! Online.

“Something
wasn’t right at that moment,” she recalled of her and the NFL star’s 2011
engagement. “A few things needed to change, and I knew the only way Jay
would see how serious I was, was if I ended the relationship.”

Kristin
reportedly said in her book that she’s always been driven to achieve long-term
goals, regardless of the potential consequences.

“I always go after what I want in
life, with men or otherwise, and I never settle,” she wrote.

The “Laguna Beach” and
“The Hills” alum recalled her “swift
and intense romance” with Jay, and said her reluctance to become a
stay-at-home wife and mother was one reason behind her initial hesitation to
walk down the aisle.

“If I stayed at home, I wouldn’t
be happy,” Kristin wrote. “And would probably end up resenting Jay
for it.”

The couple ended up reconciling in 2012,
and wed the following year. Now, they’re parents to sons Camden, 3, and Jax, 22
months, and 3-month-old daughter Saylor, and Kristin is keeping her career busy
with a Chinese Laundry shoe line.

Kristin said she and Jay got back on
track with the help of a counselor, and continue to seek professional advice about their marriage.

“I credit [our therapist] for
saving our relationship,” she wrote. “She opened up our eyes to the
other person’s perspective and gave us great tools for communication. … We
still periodically see her to this day.”

“Balancing in
Heels: My Journey to Health, Happiness, and Making It All Work” hits shelves on March 15.
