Lady Gaga Leads 2010 MTV VMA Nominations

MTV announced the nominees today for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, with pop superstar Lady Gaga leading the way. Gaga received a record-breaking thirteen nominations including “Best Pop Video,”” Best Female Video” and “Best Dance Video” for her chart topping hit “Bad Romance.”

Lady Gaga is also the first female artist in VMA history to have two nominations for “Video of the Year” for “Bad Romance” and “Telephone” featuring Beyonce.

“I’m so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history. Ironically, I’m even more proud it’s an unlucky number; 13.” Lady Gaga said in a statement to Access Hollywood. A long time ago the world told me and my little monsters we would never be heard, together we changed the rules. God put me on Earth for 3 reasons: To make loud music, gay videos, and cause a damn raucous. Thank You MTV!”

Eminem is this year’s most nominated male artist, with eight nominations including “Best Male Video,” and “Video of the Year” for “Not Afraid.”

The rapper might be leading male pack in nominations, but he’s not happy about the timing of this year’s awards.

“Apparently MTV doesn’t care that I have two massive stadium shows on the other side of the country the day after the VMAs. F me, right?!?!,” the rapper said in a statement to Access. “I mean, I’ll be there but don’t expect me to be nice about it.”

VMA newcomer Ke$ha is up for three awards for “Tik Tok,” while teen sensation Justin Bieber is nominated for “Best New Artist.”

Other artists nominated for Moonmen include Alicia Keys, Pink, Katy Perry, 30 Seconds to Mars, and Jay-Z.

Viewers can vote for general VMA categories, including “Best New Artist,” by visiting vma.mtv.com beginning August 3.

The 27 th Annual Awards Show will broadcast live from Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9:00 PM.
