Lindsay Lohan stepped out on Tuesday night at Star Magazine’s “4th Annual All Hollywood” event and Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson spoke exclusively with the actress about Rosie O’Donnell’s new rant, her new Elizabeth Taylor role and her upcoming guest spot on “Glee.”
“It’s funny that someone you don’t know at all can say something so intrusive and so knowing,” the 25-year-old, who is starring as the Hollywood legend in the in the upcoming Lifetime original movie, “Liz & Dick,” said responding to Rosie’s comments.
On Tuesday’s “Today” show, Rosie spoke out about Lindsay’s casting in the Lifetime movie, saying, “The last thing she did good she was 16… I don’t think she’s right for the role and I don’t think she’s capable at this point of doing what’s needed.”
Lindsay said she had always thought fondly of Rosie over the years, after sitting down with the former talk show host many years ago.
“You know, I did one of my first interviews with her when I was little. I was so excited,” Lindsay told Shaun.
“Does this kind of change your feelings about her?” Shaun asked?
“She should base her opinions when she meets someone,” Lindsay said.
Following Rosie’s rant, dad Michael Lohan took to Twitter to voice his displeasure with the knock of his daughter. And Lindsay’s mom, Dina Lohan, also spoke out about Rosie’s comments, in a phone call to Access’ executive producer Rob Silverstein.
“I’m very proud of my daughter and all of her many accomplishments and I just wanted to know if Rosie O’Donnell played the ‘Parent Trap’ [for] her children and she said Lindsay hasn’t done any movies, you know, since she’s 16, but that’s absolutely not factual. She’s worked with Meryl Streep in ‘Prairie Home Companion,’ she worked with Jane Fonda after that and other films, she worked in ‘Bobby,’ with an eclectic group of actors, I mean I just want to get the facts straight,” Dina said in her message.
Lindsay explained to Shaun that she is very serious about portraying the big screen beauty.
“I don’t want to have any room for any sort of fault. Life’s too short to make mistakes and I’ve learned that, so I just want to do it the way she would have wanted it to be done,” she said.
And despite her critics, the actress is very confident her in ability to play the Oscar winner.
“I know that I’m great… I know Liz Taylor really well and we shared some makeup artists… same hairstylist, we’ve worked with a lot of the same people. She sent me a ring at one point in my life, from her House of Taylor Costume Collection,” Lindsay continued. “I’m really lucky to be able to do this role and I just want to honor her the way that she should be honored, because she’s helped a lot of people in her life.”
Adding, “I’m going to do the best that I can do with the role and I’m very excited to do it.”
Lindsay stayed mum when Shaun asked who she would like play Richard Burton opposite her in the TV movie.
“I can’t tell you that,” she said with smile. “I don’t want to jinx it.”
“Gerard Butler maybe?” Shaun suggested.
“I don’t know if he would do that,” she said. “But he actually does resemble him a lot.”
Another role that Lindsay is beaming about is her upcoming guest spot on FOX’s “Glee,” where she’ll play herself as a judge at Nationals in an episode airing on May 15.
“I just got my sides tonight before I came here… I haven’t read them yet,” she told Shaun. “I’m kind of nervous, but it’s tomorrow. [It] should be a fun shoot and it was fun the first day and everyone on the set’s really nice… I feel really lucky… everyone’s really sweet and it’s been really fun.”
