Lionel Richie Says ‘Hello’ To Adele In Playful Instagram Post

Lionel Richie thinks it might be he who Adele is looking
for.

The singer took to social media on Saturday to acknowledge
the similarities between his 1983 smash “Hello,” and the newly released
Adele single of the same name.

“HELLO @Adele,” Lionel wrote on Instagram,
captioning a side-by-side photo of himself and the British chanteuse.

“Is it me you’re looking for…” he added, playfully
referencing his song’s trademark line.

Identical titles aren’t the only thing the tracks have in
common. Both ballads showcase forlorn lyrics about lost or unrequited love, and
each corresponding video features its vocalist struggling through a telephone
conversation.

The former Commodores frontman also shared a short mash-up
that went viral following the release of Adele’s latest hit.

In the 12-second clip, Adele answers an eager phone call from Lionel and promptly hangs up on him.

Adele may have appeared curt in the funny vid, but in real
life she’s already game for a potential duet with the “All Night
Long” singer.

“We’ve definitely got to do something, me and
Lionel,” she told BBC Radio 1 on Friday.

Lionel has showcased a sense of humor about his cult classic
song before. In September, the 66-year-old helped Jimmy Fallon spoof
“Hello” for a live-action “Tonight Show” sketch in which both men could hardly
contain their laughter.
