Liza Minnelli Heading to Smash

“Smash” is about to get a large dose of a real life Broadway legend!

Liza Minnelli will guest star on the NBC musical drama, the network has announced.

The Oscar, Golden Globe, Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award-winning star will play herself in the upcoming second season, and will sing an original song with series star Christian Borle that was written by the show’s celebrated composer and lyricists Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.

The “Cabaret” legend joins a slew of stars slated to make guest appearances on the show this season, including Jennifer Hudson, Jesse L. Martin and Sean Hayes.

Liza’s episode is titled “The Surprise Party” and will air later in spring 2013.

“Smash” returns with its Season 2 premiere on Tuesday, February 5 at 9 PM, and will continue in its regular time slot on Tuesday, February 12 at 10 PM on NBC.
