‘Lost’ & Found: Lighten Up Folks! (October 19, 2006)

Man did last night’s “Lost” strike a cord here at Access Hollywood.

The reviews weren’t good. “Not that great”.. “Lame”.. “Yawn” The consensus from our weekly email drill was that we all experienced yet another “Lost” letdown. I agreed to a certain point. Yes they promise us stuff and don’t deliver often and to be frank I can’t stand Charlie but last night’s episode had some nice moments.

My colleague Mike said it best “I think you guys are being too critical. The background on Locke is really showing why he is the way he is. It?s like you all are expecting a season finale every episode.” Unfortunately we are expecting cliffhangers in every episode. Because that’s what season one was like.

Mike’s right. Locke’s back-story did give us reason to understand his pain. He feels like a disappointment to his loved ones. His dad let him down. His mom let him down. Now more than anything he didn’t want to disappoint his new pot growing “family” and in the end he “lost” again. And wouldn’t it be great if the young cop ended up being an “Other” – sent to check out Locke in the states?? I like this idea.

The polar bear story continued-we now know why the polar bears may be engineered on the island. As Charlie pointed out they?re the smartest of the worlds bears. Now why Mr. Eko didn’t have more catastrophic injuries after being dragged down Darth Vader’s cave—well I have no idea.

They also introduced us to two new characters: Nikki and Paulo played by Brazilian star Rodrigo Santoro. I talked about him in my column earlier this week. My “Lost” source was correct. His introduction was weak. They clearly ran out of room in the episode quickly introducing them to us as survivors who’ve been with our castaways from day one. I’m interested to see how this will work. Nikki seems like a loud mouth. She may be the new Ana-Lucia. One can only hope (I miss you Michelle-I’ll never forget.).

Next week may very well be the episode when Kate finally chooses Sawyer. The promo suggests it. While Sawyer is being tortured Kate is forced to make a decision. Do you love him or not? That is the question. In the episode ?Every Man for Himself? – Sawyer discovers just how far his captors will go to thwart any plans of escape he and Kate might have, and Jack is called upon to scrub up in order to save the life of one of ?The Others.? And expect Desmond, who now can see the future, to start building a strange new device.

We hope it’s not another hatch.
