‘Mad Men’s’ Jon Hamm On Joining ‘The Simpsons’: ‘It Was An Honor’

Jon Hamm may have been honored with an Emmy nomination for Best Actor — for his work as the troubled, dark and dreamy ad executive Don Draper on AMC’s “Mad Men” — but recently he was gifted with another accolade – he was invited to join the cast of “The Simpsons.”

“It is a great honor for me, for sure,” Jon told Access Hollywood on Tuesday night at the “Mad Men” Season 4 premiere of joining “The Simpsons” fray as a guest star.

On the animated show, in an episode set to air in December, Jon will – like he is doing in “The Town,” due in theaters September 10 — play a government official. While “The Town” pairs him with Ben Affleck and Blake Lively, in “The Simpsons,” Jon’s character works with Homer.

“I’m an FBI agent – [I’m] being typecast, I think, as an FBI agent these days,” he laughed.

The actor said doing the cartoon program – the longest running primetime show in history — was something he will never forget.

“It was an incredible experience,” he said. “I got to work on ‘The Simpsons,’ which I watched for 20 years and the show is still fresh and still funny and the characters still resonate. It’s one of the best shows on television. It was an honor to be asked to be a part of it.”

Over the next few months, Jon is dressing as the dapper Don Draper on the “Mad Men” set, where they’re currently working on the tenth episode of Season 4, but he said suiting up for “The Simpsons” role was an entirely different affair.

“I don’t have to get dressed!” he laughed.

As for his regular gig on “Mad Men,” which kicks off Season 4 on Sunday at 10 PM on AMC, Jon said viewers are going to get to know more about the always-intriguing character he plays.

“I think it’s interesting that even four years into this show we still don’t really know who this guy is and the greater world at large doesn’t and I think that’s a question that we keep returning to throughout this season,” he said. “A lot of things happen this season. It will be very exciting for people to see it I think.”
