Max Greenfield Shares Amusing Family Reaction To His New Girl Golden Globe Nomination

Max Greenfield brings the laughs on a weekly basis as Schmidt on FOX’s “New Girl,” and Max, himself, was also amusing when he shared a story with Access Hollywood about his mother’s reaction to his Golden Globe nomination for best Actor in a Supporting Role.

“My mom, she was real excited, except for the fact, I think she was like, ‘I can’t believe you’re up against Ed Harris. You are not going to win this. And then there’s Mandy Patinkin! He plays Saul, Saul Berenson. You don’t stand a chance!’ She’s like, ‘Maybe I’ll put you in fourth.’”

It’s likely Max was entirely making up what he told Access about his mom’s reaction, but he does face some stiff competition.

Max is up against Ed, for the actor’s role as John McCain in HBO’s “Game Change,” Mandy in “Homeland,” Danny Huston in Starz’s series “Magic City” and Eric Stonestreet in “Modern Family.”

Max’s “New Girl” co-star Zooey Deschanel also was nominated for a Golden Globe – for best Actress in a Television Series — and her field of fellow nominees includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus for HBO’s “Veep,” Lena Dunham in HBO’s “Girls,” Tina Fey in “30 Rock” and Amy Poehler in “Parks and Recreation.”

“[I was] so excited,” Zooey told Access of how she felt after receiving the news.

“I’m extraordinarily happy that I was nominated and I feel so honored to be in that category with such great people,” she said.
