Meryl Streep Talks Devil Wears Prada Sequel: I’d Have To Lose Weight!

Meryl Streep earned an Oscar nomination for 2006’s “The Devil Wears Prada,” verbally slaying Anne Hathaway’s character with lines like, “Take a chance. Hire the smart, fat girl.” But with a sequel to the hit novel in the works, does Meryl think she’s slim enough to once again reign over the stylish halls of Runway magazine as Miranda Priestly?

Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson caught up with the lovely and talented three-time Oscar winner at the Women In Film 2012 Crystal + Lucy Awards on Tuesday, where she chimed in on possibly playing the Anna Wintour-esque character who we loved to hate.

”‘Devil Wears Prada 2,’ we’re going to see it?” Shaun asked.

“Yes, no, no, I don’t… is there one?” Meryl said, appearing to not know about the planned book sequel. “I’ve never heard about it.”

If the actress was going to reprise her icy glare and barbed jabs, Meryl thinks she’d have to get down to a Miranda-approved size.

“But sure, I mean, I’d have to lose the [expletive] weight, but yes. I guess I would do, I would do that, yeah,” she added.

According to Entertainment Weekly, author Lauren Weisberger is penning “Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns,” which takes place eight years after the 2006 bestseller.

In the follow-up, Andy (Anne Hathaway) is now the editor at The Plunge, a hot bridal magazine, working alongside Emily (Emily Blunt). In the process of planning her own wedding, Andy’s world collides with her stiletto-loving former boss.

“Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns” is slated to hit the shelves in April 2013.
