Michael Lohan, Dina Lohan Weigh In On Lindsay’s Letterman Appearance

David Letterman pulled no punches interviewing Lindsay Lohan on “The Late Show” on Tuesday night and Access Hollywood caught up with the troubled actress’ parents, Dina and Michael, on Wednesday to get their reaction to the late night host’s line of questioning.

“I think [Dave] was throwing [Lindsay] a lot of curve balls and I think she was throwing them out of the park,” Dina told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush during a phone interview.

The late night appearance was tense at times, yet Dina said she thinks Lindsay held her own throughout both segments of Letterman. While there were moments of squirming in her seat, for the most part, Lindsay laughed off Dave’s blunt line of comedic questioning, which included barbs about her upcoming trip to rehab and theft allegations – topics which were not broached during the pre-interview, according to Dina.

“We all know that – they even do this even on your show — they kind of brief us with questions that are going to be asked and there were very few — she was really there to promote ‘Scary Movie,’” Dina said.

Lindsay told Dave she considers her upcoming court-ordered trip to rehab a “blessing,” but declined to elaborate on what she would be treated for. Dina also remained mum on the specifics of her daughter’s addictions.

“I don’t want to get into the dynamics of why she’s getting into rehab – that’s for her to heal within herself,” Dina told Billy.

Access’ Kit Hoover spoke with Michael Lohan on Wednesday (from his home in Florida), who also praised his daughter’s composure while under fire.

“I thought that she was amazing. As usual with David Letterman, she actually took over and controlled the interview and I thought she put a whole comic twist on it,” he said. “At the same time, I thought it was very heartfelt and she was very serious about wanting to get help.”

Lindsay began to tear up on the show after making a joke about alcohol – something clinical psychologist Dr. Jenn Berman told Access was a telling moment.

“I think that she was actually revealing something that was very poignant and very sad and that’s really the struggle with addiction,” Dr. Berman (who has not treated Lindsay) said in an interview with Access on Wednesday. “We like to look at the tabloids and laugh and say, ‘Oh she did this, she did that,’ but the truth is, this is a cunning, baffling disease that kills people and if she doesn’t get herself clean and sober it’s probably gonna kill her.”
