Michael Phelps Offers Sympathy For Tiger Woods: ‘It Can’t Be Easy’

Michael Phelps expressed kind words for Tiger Woods and his family at a press conference on Thursday in Manchester, England.

“I will say I’m wishing the best for him and his family at a time like this,” the 14-time Olympic gold medalist told reporters when asked about the golfer and his recent alleged affairs. “You see who your actual friends are and who will support you.”

The swimmer, who weathered his own public controversy after a photograph was published showing Phelps with his mouth on a marijuana-smoking device, said he assumes the golfer is going through a difficult time.

“I think he’s going through a hard time now, I assume, I have no idea what he’s going through,” Phelps continued. “It can’t be easy.”

The swimmer reiterated his well wishes for Woods, wife Elin Nordegren and the couple’s children.

“I wish the best for him and his family,” Phelps added.
