Nick Jonas On His ‘Unbelievable Connection’ With Kate Hudson: ‘She’s Amazing’

Nick Jonas is enjoying the single life.

The star got candid in an interview for the February/March issue of Complex, touching upon
how he’s navigated the dating world since splitting from former Miss Universe
Olivia Culpo last year.

So far, Nick said, being on his own has worked out both personally
and professionally.

“[I feel] the most free in my life that I’ve ever been,”
he told the mag. “Career-wise I don’t feel trapped. I feel great. And as
far as me, Nick, as a person, I feel the most free.”

Explaining that “free Nick” is “more fun to be
around,” the 23-year-old singer and actor said that he’s kept an open mind
regarding his dating prospects.

“My current situation is that I’m very much single, but I’m
trying to be as open to people who can inspire me in some way,” he said.

One of those people is rumored to be Kate Hudson, with whom
Nick was first spotted at Disney World in September.

While Nick said he wouldn’t go into detail about the nature of their relationship “out of my best
effort to respect her and her privacy,” he did offer kind words about
the actress, who is 13 years his senior.

“Kate’s incredible. We had an unbelievable connection as two
humans who just admire things about each other, and see something in each other
that’s beautiful,” he said.

“I’m not going to say if we had sex or not,” he responded, when asked directly if he and Kate have been intimate. “But we did have a beautiful connection. Even now I have so much
admiration and respect. She’s amazing.”

Nick said he’s grown used to fielding questions about his love
life in general, and understands the curiosity surrounding him and Kate.

“It’s a bizarre matchup to a lot of people,” he told the
mag.

While his status with the “Almost Famous” star may be garnering
the most attention, Nick did say he admires a few other Hollywood beauties as well,
including “Game of Thrones” star Emilia Clarke and Amy Schumer — the latter of whom Nick
joked may have some competition.

“I know they are besties, so I can’t really say this, but
Jennifer Lawrence, too,” he added.

Perhaps most surprising, however, is Nick’s admission that one of
his first celebrity crushes has also had a formative impact on his music
career.

“Shania Twain is one of my biggest influences. … I love
her,” Nick said, citing the country crossover star’s former husband and
longtime producer Mutt Lange as “one of the greatest” in the
business.

“Melodically, the vocal arrangements, the songs – I think it’s
all brilliant,” he said.
