Nicolas Cage On Being A Famous Father: ‘I Have To Remind Him, I’m Daddy’

Nicolas Cage’s son Kal-El is discovering his father’s a movie star.

“My youngest son has started to refer to me as Nicolas Cage from time to time,” the actor, who’s also dad to the teenage Weston, told AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman at the junket for his latest film, “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” “I have to remind him, ‘I’m Daddy. I’m Daddy.’”

“He has a little… action figure he walks around with,” “Apprentice” co-star Jay Baruchel added.

“Yeah, I don’t know how that wound up in his hands,” Nicolas responded. “It doesn’t happen anymore.”

While the star tries to give his home life a “sense of normalcy” for his family, he said “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” would be one movie of his that Kal-El, 4 ½, would enjoy.

“He’d love this movie,” he said. “I made this movie for all ages.”

The live-action film, based on the classic animated scene from “Fantasia,” was one the two actors said they approached with reverence.

“[It] has meant so much to so many people for generations,” Jay explained. “I had to pay homage to it.”

“For me, it was like, how do you make the sorcerer, who’s a scary guy in the original cartoon… funny and likable on some level,” Nicolas said. “That was my own little conundrum.”

“The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” is due in theaters on July 14.
