Nicole Kidman & Aaron Eckhart Get Intense & Intimate In ‘Rabbit Hole’

To bring David Lindsay-Abaire’s Tony Award-winning play “Rabbit Hole” to the big screen, stars Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart were forced to go to some very dark places – a challenge which both actors loved.

“The first time I met Nicole I went up to her and I said, ‘I can do anything to you. I can touch you, I can not talk to you, I can be rude to you, I can want to have sex with you.’ Because that’s our relationship and I give myself permission to do that and I give you permission to do that with me,” Aaron told Access Hollywood at the New York premiere on Thursday night.

“That’s the basis of a marriage in a film like this when you’re going through such intimate and heartbreaking experiences. Without that it just turns into melodrama and it turns into something that’s been done before,” the actor continued. “I think that we were able to achieve some sort of reality with grief and loss and also hope.”

Nicole said she welcomed her co-star’s intense approach to playing a couple whose life is thrown into chaos after the death of their son.

“He can do anything!” Nicole told Access. “I so wanted him to do this and we got lucky because, you know, you rarely get your first choice for a film… I so wanted him to play my husband. I think he is just gorgeous in the role and I love his work.”

When it came to the film’s dark themes, Nicole said it was just another day at the office.

“That’s what we do as actors. Sometimes we get given things that are comedies and sometimes we get dramas and we tell all different stories, that’s our job,” she added.

“Rabbit Hole” hits theaters on December 17.
