Nike, EA Sports Respond To Tiger Woods’ Speech

Tiger Woods may have lost some of his sponsors due to his admitted infidelity and the ensuing controversy, but after he delivered a lengthy apology on Friday morning, a number of his remaining business partners reiterated their support.

“Tiger has apologized and made his position clear. Nike fully supports him and his family,” the sports company, which has built its golfing brand around Tiger, said in a statement to Access Hollywood. “We look forward to him returning to golf.”

And video game company EA Sports also approved of Tiger’s speech.

“It was good to see Tiger address the public today, and we’re supportive of his focus toward family and rebuilding his life,” EA Sports president Peter Moore said in a statement.

Tiger, an athlete whose competitive success and previously spotless image led to millions of dollars in sponsorships, found himself a less valuable pitchman as reports of his infidelities with a number of women came to light.

Among the companies to end or distance themselves from their relationship with the golf great since the media firestorm following his Thanksgiving 2009 car accident were Accenture, Gillette, Gatorade, Tag Heuer and AT&T.
