“Once Upon A Time” continues this Sunday night at 8/7c on ABC and Ginnifer Goodwin’s Snow White and Jennifer Morrison’s Emma Swan will finally sit down for a meaningful mother-daughter talk.
“I wanted to have the mother-daughter talk in Episode 201, after the curse broke,” Ginnifer said, when Access Hollywood posed the question to the actress, after ABC flew us up to the Vancouver set, where they made us their guest earlier this week. “I couldn’t think of anything more pressing than addressing the dynamic between a mother and daughter who are the same age and [have] been through what they’ve been through.”
Ginnifer said the family being together in Neverland, away from the distractions of Storybrooke, will finally provide that opportunity.

“I say this without being sarcastic in any way, our exciting and adventurous plot last year kept interrupting those kinds of conversations, so every time we went to address the relationship between them — Emma’s abandonment issues, Snow’s guilt, we’d be interrupted by some external obstacle,” Ginnifer explained. “So now that we are in Neverland… one of the things about this world is that you’re forced to face yourself and face your past, which makes sense in a world where everything is based on youth, which we all know from the story of Peter Pan. So because we are tonally stuck somewhere like that, at the beginning of the season we’re going to absolutely have an opportunity to finally sit down and have these talks.”
The actress said that her character —Snow/Mary Margaret — comes from the perspective that “sorry” is — eventually — going to be good enough to make their relationship right.
“What I love that I have been given to play as an actress, is that Snow has clearly thought, since the end of Season 1 that all it would ever take to heal the relationship between Emma and Snow would be saying, ‘I’m sorry.’ Like she thinks there’s some magical number that once she hits saying, ‘I’m sorry,’ that many times, that it will make up for everything that’s happened,” Ginnifer said. “And so we do have a really gut-wrenching confrontation, I mean, I guess I’d call it a confrontation. Even though it’s not combative, there’s confrontation between them in this episode that really illuminates that misconception of Snow’s. And it was a really, really hard scene to film.”
