‘The Originals’: Executive Producer Michael Narducci Previews Season 3 Finale

After a season filled with ancient enemies, prophecies and
the loss of friends, “The Originals” has many more twists in store
for its Season 3 finale, which will see Klaus Mikaelson put on trial.

Klaus has done many bad things over the years, so is the
trial really just an opportunity for everyone who has been hurt by him to just
watch the ancient hybrid squirm?

“I think that’s a great question and I really can’t
answer it without spoiling some things for you,” Executive Producer
Michael Narducci told AccessHollywood.com on Thursday afternoon. “But I
will say this — it’s a 41-minute show, so not everyone who Klaus has wronged
will have their opportunity to speak against him. What you’re going to get to
see is really a few exceptional examples of what Klaus has done over the course
of history, along with the sins that he’s committed against his own siblings,
along with the sins that he’s committed against his heir, his ward, the son
that he had who he adopted named Marcel. And you will get to see what people
think of Klaus and why he’s such a monster and it’s a reminder of how vile and
horrifying this person is. But then you will also get to see Klaus’ perspective
on that and I think he delivers a scathing rebuttal of who he is and why, and
it’s a defining moment for the character that I think is just beautifully
written and beautifully performed by Joseph [Morgan]. This is Joseph at the
height of his power. This episode is a phenomenal example of what Joseph Morgan
is capable of as an actor and I think people are going to really be blown
away.”

Marcel, who is now a super-vampire with a deadly bite
(thanks to Vincent giving him the duplicate vial of Lucien’s potion) is out for
Mikaelson family blood. He wasn’t swayed by Klaus’ speeches to him last week,
but Friday night’s episode will see the return of Claire Holt’s Rebekah
Mikaelson, who will defend her brother and face Marcel.

“It is so great to see Claire Holt on our show, and it
was such a smart move by whomever it was that decided to bring Rebekah out of
hibernation to have her help deal with what Marcel is doing and going
through,” Narducci said of Claire’s return as Rebekah. “I think it is
just such an awesome opportunity for that character to come in and after having
been gone for a while, to realize that she alone may be the one who can help
save her family. … Claire Holt, again, is just such a spectacular actress, and
does such a phenomenal job with her scenes in this episode. It’s really
breathtaking.”

One character fans won’t see in the episode is Davina
Claire, who helped cut off the link from the ancestral realm rather heroically
last week. While Davina is dead, is she gone for good?

“You’re not going to see her in the finale. Is she dead
and gone for good? I will tell you that Danielle Campbell is no longer a
regular on our cast list, but I really love Danielle Campbell and I’ve talked
to her repeatedly about the fact that she’s a part of this family, and she
knows that, and Davina died in the ancestral realm where the witch spirits go
when they die and that realm hasn’t been destroyed. The connection between that
place and our living world has been weakened to the point of being severed, but
they’re still out there and I’m a firm believer in if something is still out
there somewhere then you probably haven’t seen the last of it,” he said.

On Thursday morning, The CW announced its 2016-2017
television schedule and it revealed that while “The Vampire Diaries”
returns in the fall, “The Originals” will return midseason, so it had
us wondering how big Friday’s cliffhanger will be, knowing we’ll have to wait
more months than usual for the resolution.

“It’s a pretty massive cliffhanger. I sympathize with
our fans,” he said. “It’s going to be, probably for the true diehard
fans of the show, a very difficult hiatus.”

But, the EP noted that the good news is they will get to “come back and resolve this cliffhanger” when the show returns midseason.

“The Originals” Season 3 finale airs Friday at 9/8c on The CW.
