Oscar Snubs: Hanks, Oprah, Redford & More!

The 86th Annual Academy Award nominations were announced Thursday morning with serious snubs as some of this year’s favorite big screen performances and films failed to earn Oscar nominations.

“Gravity” and “American Hustle” led the Oscar noms with 10 each, but films like “Saving Mr. Banks,” “Inside Llewyn Davis,” “Her,” “Fruitvale Station,” “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” “All is Lost,” “Rush,” “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” and the documentary “Blackfish,” received few or no nods from the Academy.

Here is AccessHollywood.com’s snub breakdown by category:

Best Picture: The category can have up to 10 possible nominations and many thought Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine” or the Coen Brother’s “Inside Llewyn Davis” would score a nomination.

Best Actor: Tom Hanks for “Captain Phillips,” Robert Redford for “All is Lost,” Joaquin Phoenix for “Her” and Forest Whitaker for “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” – despite critical praise and box office success, all these award show favorites were passed over.

Best Actress: Emma Thompson will need a spoon full of sugar for her “Saving Mr. Banks” snub, along with Scarlett Johansson, whose voice-only role in “Her” was left off the nominations list, though some considered her a longshot.

Best Supporting Actress: Oprah Winfrey’s award season snubs continued on Thursday with her role in “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” failing to score a nod.

Best Supporting Actor: Golden Globe nominee Daniel Bruhl was passed over for his work in “Rush,” as was Will Forte for “Nebraska.”

Best Documentary Feature: After causing a slew of headaches and less-than-stellar headlines for Sea World, the documentary about the treatment of orca whales in captivity, “Blackfish,” was tossed back in the water by the Academy.

Best Animated Feature: Pixar hit, both at the box office and with fans, “Monsters University,” failed to scare up a nomination.

Best Director: Many top notch filmmakers, Spike Jonze for “Her,” Paul Greengrass for “Captain Phillips” and Lee Daniels for “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” won’t need to dust off their tuxedoes on Oscar night.

Find out who will take home Oscar gold at the 86th Annual Academy Awards, with host Ellen DeGeneres, on March 2 live on ABC at 7 PM ET/4 PM PT.
