“Outlander” fans will get a break from waiting for the show to return with a sneak peek at the midseason premiere, airing this Saturday night.
Starz will air the opening scene from Episode 109 of the freshman drama (based on Diana Gabaldon’s books) before the premiere of Season 2 of pirate drama “Black Sails.”
At the Television Critics Association Winter Tour, Caitriona Balfe (Claire) and Sam Heughan (Jamie) told Access Hollywood a little bit about how things pick up in the drama, when it officially premieres on April 4.

“We pick up pretty much where we left off, but you see it from Jamie’s point of view. I’m allowed to say or reveal that yes, 109, the first of the second part of the season, is from Jamie’s point of view,” Sam told Access. “So you see what he went through to get to that point, and then you find some out some little spoilers, but it’s a very action packed episode as well.”
Caitriona said the bonds between Claire and Jamie will get “tested” in the second half of the season.
“We left at a very dramatic cliffhanger. … I think what we’ll see in the very beginning is really Claire and Jamie’s relationship gets tested,” Caitriona said. “She’s really struggling with sort of being stuck in this time, and you know, even though she feels like she’s fallen in love and that’s all great, there’s that little sort of reality [that] has kicked in and it’s like, ‘This is not a safe place, it’s not an easy place to be and… the same rules and codes do not apply in this time.'”
Claire has been unsuccessful in her attempts to get back to the 1940s and her husband, Frank Randall.
At the same time, Claire’s feelings for her new husband, James Fraser, have grown. He remains an outlaw, and all of these things will add up to more struggles for Claire and Jamie when the show returns.
“We’ll see a lot of sort of trials and tribulations that they have to go through, but I think it just gets more exciting,” she said.

The “Outlander” sneak peek airs Saturday before the “Black Sails” Season 2 premiere (9/8c on Starz). “Outlander” returns officially on April 4.
