Patrick Dempsey Talks Derek Shepherd’s ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Exit: It Should Be As ‘McDreamy’ As Possible

Patrick Dempsey recently shocked fans by hinting that the upcoming season of “Grey’s Anatomy” could be his last, and while the actor has yet to confirm his impending departure, he hasn’t denied that he may soon be hanging up his scrubs.

“We have another year to finish up, so yeah,” Patrick told Access Hollywood guest correspondent Tim Vincent at the premiere of Patrick’s new film, “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” in Moscow on Thursday, when asked if “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 8 will be his last on the medical drama. “I don’t know what’s gonna happen with the show — I don’t think they do either.”

However, the handsome actor did reveal that – hypothetically speaking – if Dr. Shepherd were to say goodbye to the halls of Seattle Grace, Patrick hopes his beloved character’s departure would include a romantic exit with his onscreen love, Meredith Grey (played by Ellen Pompeo).

“I think they should go off in the sunset together, quite honestly,” Patrick told Tim. “I think they should maintain it, and he should leave as McDreamy as possible I think.’

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, in May, Patrick admitted his future on “Grey’s Anatomy” after the 2011-2012 season finishes is uncertain.

“It will be my last one,” the charming star was quoted as saying in the new issue of Italian Vanity Fair, referring to the upcoming Season 8.

The actor reportedly said he is unaware what will happen with the other characters.

“But for me, it’s over,” he reportedly added.

“Transformers: Dark of the Moon” hits theaters on Wednesday.
