Patty Duke, Oscar Winner & Former Child Star, Dies At 69

Hollywood has lost another icon. Patty Duke passed away
early Tuesday morning, Access Hollywood has confirmed. She was 69.

According to her rep, the actress died from sepsis after
suffering a ruptured intestine.

A statement was issued following the sad news, calling the
star “a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a mental health advocate and a
cultural icon.”

“She will be greatly missed,” the statement continued.

Duke was best known for her dual role as identical cousins
on the 1960s sitcom “The Patty Duke Show,” and her Academy
Award-winning turn as Helen Keller in “The
Miracle Worker.”

She is survived by her husband, Michael Pearce, and three
sons — Kevin Pearce, Mackenzie Astin and Sean
Astin.

Duke and Pearce celebrated their 30th anniversary on March
15, a milestone which the actress shared on Twitter.
