Piers Morgan Announces Oprah As First Guest On CNN Show, Says Madonna Still Banned

Piers Morgan has revealed his first guest for his new CNN show, “Piers Morgan Tonight,” will be Oprah Winfrey

“I genuinely think she’s the perfect guest for the show because she’s not only the biggest celebrity in the world as far as I’m concerned, she also has an extraordinary brand; she’s a remarkable business woman; she’s worth nearly $3 billion and it makes her a completely unique character,” he said of Oprah on Thursday during the network’s TCA panel in Pasadena, Calif. “And it was an incredible interview.”

Piers revealed he was scheduled to speak to Oprah for just 45 minutes, but he spent about two hours poking Oprah’s brain, and it will make an exciting opener for his show.

“I guarantee you’re going to enjoy that interview,” he told the room of reporters.

While Oprah is in, he confirmed previous reports that Madonna has no place on his program

“She’s kind of been an irritant in my life for 20 years, so I’ve banned her from the show,” the former British tabloid editor said. “It’s probably quite childish.”

There is hope that the pop singer can appear on his program – if she comes to him.

“Make the apology on CNN,” he said of how Madonna can sit in Piers’ hot seat, not fully explaining why the two don’t get along. “Other than that, it’s a lifetime ban.”

Piers went on to note that Lady Gaga is still his preferred pop star interview over Madonna.

“Lady Gaga’s half her age, twice as good looking, twice as talented and twice as hot, so why would I bother with Madonna,” he added.

When asked about his plans to cover the upcoming royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton in April, Piers said he is very much looking forward to it, having once dined with a teenage William and his mother, Princess Diana.

Piers said he wants to take his show “back to Britain” around the royal wedding as, “William and Kate, come April, they’ll be the biggest stars in the world.”

“Piers Morgan Tonight” premieres on January 17 at 9 PM ET on CNN.
