‘Reign’: Adelaide Kane, Toby Regbo & Megan Follows Talk Season 2

“Reign’s” Adelaide Kane, Toby Regbo and Megan Follows touched down at San Diego Comic-Con, where they shared big hints about Season 2 of their CW show.

From what all three actors (who play Mary Queen of Scots, the new king — King Francis, and Queen Catherine) teased, the plague, which was ushered in at the end of last season, will be a very big deal.

“There’s definitely some threat from people dying [all] around, people dying of the plague. You have to keep on the move because people keep dropping,” Toby told Access.

Adelaide said that the widespread disease will create chaos.

“They’re robbing each other, they’re killing each other. There’s a chance [people will] take [Francis] and rob him for being a noble, not knowing he’s a king,” she said.

With Francis on the hunt to find Lola and his baby, and the plague running rampant throughout France, Megan’s Queen Catherine will work hard to keep up appearances.

“I’m very worried. I’m not happy about that, but I will put a face on and pretend that everything is all right because I don’t want people to know how upset about that I am,” Megan told Access, about Francis leaving the castle.

Outside of medical disasters, Catherine will have to figure out her power situation. Now that her husband, King Henry (Alan Van Sprang) is dead, her power base has to come from somewhere else.

“I think that’s what Catherine is learning and trying to figure out as well, in terms of Catherine’s power now lies through her connection with her sons,” she said.

And with her husband gone – the man who had her locked up and nearly executed – could we see Catherine grow in power?

“I hope so. I think so. I think she’s gotta figure out how to do that and how to manipulate around that,” Megan said. “But she’s really a backdoor dealer, Catherine. She’s really the one who’s really the politician and always was. She’s not the face of something; she’s the one actually working out the structure of deals and really was doing that. [She] sort of had a real quiet, strong, churning power, so she understands things that the others don’t understand.”

“Reign” could also see a coronation, where Francis is officially crowned too, in Season 2.

“I think it’s coming up. I’ve got some business that I need to take care of first, like finding out whether I have a daughter or a son,” Toby said.

“Reign” returns October 2 on The CW.
