Ricki Lake: Katie Couric Will Be ‘Stiff Competition’

Daytime TV will have a crop of new faces this fall including Ricki Lake, Jeff Probst, Steve Harvey, Marie Osmond and Katie Couric – but who does Ricki think will be her biggest competition?

“We’re all going to do it differently, we all have different styles,” Ricki told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Tuesday’s Access Hollywood Live when asked her fellow talk show hosts.

“I think Katie is going to be some stiff competition,” she added.

Having hosted a daytime show for 11 seasons (from 1993 to 2004), Ricki says she learned a great deal about producing a show and is looking forward to her new project.

“I don’t want to repeat what I’ve already done. I want to do something new… It’s a different tone from the old show,” she told Billy and Kit. “More mature, a little bit more relevance, more substantial, but fun.”

With a whole wealth of life experiences (having kids and a new relationship) under her belt since she last hosted a talk show, Ricki said to expect more from her.

“I think I’ll be better this time around,” she continued. “The times are different now and I’m different now.”

Her show, which debuts on September 10, might be new, but it will still take a look back at what made Ricki so popular.

“We pay homage to my old show with some of our favorite guests,” Ricki revealed about the premiere episode.
