Ricky Martin On ‘Romantic’ New Album & Fatherhood: My Sons Are ‘Always With Me’

Ricky Martin is back on the music scene with a new album, and the singer said fans across the world will connect with the new tracks.

“It’s an album that I recorded a year ago in Australia and came to LA and we did some recording and we went to Miami and Puerto Rico. It’s a very international album,” Ricky told Access Hollywood’s Liz Hernandez of “A Quien Quiera Escuchar” (Whoever Wants To Listen), in a new interview on Tuesday. “Very romantic. Very real. Very raw. Very transparent. It doesn’t matter where you’re from, you will understand it because it’s very emotional.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s in Spanish. It feels really good,” he added. “I’m very proud of this album. So proud.”

The singer, who has found massive success with both English and Spanish hits, said he strives to bring cultures together.

“For me, the most important thing is to play with fusion and break boundaries and unite cultures. So we will find, obviously, the Latin sounds and we will find the Anglo touch as well,” he said. “And the lyrics are very beautiful. Very powerful. But it’s an international album.”

Ricky will embark on a world tour, kicking of its U.S. leg in Las Vegas in September, and said he’d describe the tour as “theatrical.”

“I am very influenced by theater because of what I’ve done on Broadway. So I bring my dancers, amazing musicians. It’s my playground. I invest in my concert because I just love — it’s all about feeling good,” he said, of his upcoming “One World” tour. “I can’t tell you the details about what it’s going to look like. But it’s going to be massive.”

Even more than performing, Ricky loves being a father to his twin 7-year-old boys.

“[Fatherhood is] my favorite role,” he said. “They’re always with me. I cannot leave them anywhere for more than two days! I’m in trouble all the time with my mom and my dad. [They’re like,] ‘Why don’t you just go on the road and leave them here?’ And I’m like, ‘No, that’s not happening.'”

“A Quien Quiera Escuchar” is available now.
