Ring Around The Rosie: What’s Next For ‘Price’ & ‘The View?’

NEW YORK, NY (June 21, 2007) — It’s a game of ring around the Rosie — Rosie O’Donnell, naturally.Never before in the history of television has one unemployed woman caused so much speculation. As stars circle her old job on “The View,” a sitcom star is after the new job she wants!Could Drew Carey be the next host of “The Price is Right?” The star of “The Drew Carey Show” and “Whose Line is it Anyway” has reportedly met with the game show’s producers and CBS, regarding the possibility of taking over for retired host Bob Barker.O’Donnell has been publicly campaigning to host the show, and reportedly had a meeting of her own set up with the show’s producers. Barker himself commented on Rosie at the Daytime Emmy Awards this past weekend, saying, “There’s no doubt in my mind she could do the show,” but then added this week: “I have not been asked for my opinion, nor have I expressed one. I think there are several candidates who could do the show, and Rosie is certainly one of them.”

If Rosie’s looking for a ringing endorsement, she should call up her friend Fran Drescher, who celebrated seven years of being cancer-free at her “Cancer Schmancer Foundation” party last night.“I think that’s a great idea, and [Rosie] would be wonderful,” Drescher told Access Hollywood. “She loves game shows, so I think it’s a perfect forum for her.”But in a post on her official Web site yesterday, Rosie said : “I don’t know if it’s going to work out,” adding, “Frankly, talking to real people would be better than having to talk to celebrities, so it would be good for me…but I don’t know if it would be right for them.”As of today, Rosie is still a free agent, which means the mad scramble for a new host continues.Meanwhile, Rosie’s empty chair on “The View” still needs to be filled (as well as Star Jones’ empty chair), but count Wanda Sykes out. When asked about it by Meredith Vieira on “Today,” the comedienne answered, “I’d rather be shot in the head!” But are two male names being considered? “The Tonight Show’s” Ross the Intern revealed on his blog with Rosie that he’ll be a co-host for a day. “July 17th breaking news,” said Ross, to which Rosie added, “Ross Matthews: male co-host on “The View!”The other man reportedly in contention is actor/comedian Mario Cantone, a regular guest on “The View” who was up for the job when Meredith Vieira left last year. “The View” executive producer Bill Geddie told Access today, “We are open to trying a variety of guest co-hosts who bring a unique voice to the show. As I have said before, some are friends of the show, some are people we thought could mix it up, some are stunts and some are potential candidates.” Everything will undoubtedly be made clear soon enough, but until then — around and around it goes!
