Rising Star: ‘2 Broke Girls’ Actress Beth Behrs

Beth Behrs just might have the most recognizable new face in America.

For the last month, the pretty young woman has been staring out from those “2 Broke Girls” billboards, magazines and mailing campaigns, dressed in the never-looks-good-on-anyone mustard-colored waitress uniform, with her perfectly coifed golden blonde locks, and big, blue doe-eyes. And even before Monday’s season premiere of her very funny new show (Monday at 9:30 PM ET/PT on CBS), AccessHollywood.com’s newest Rising Star has been finding that she has a growing crop of fans.

“It happened twice in the last week — for the first time,” she told Access of getting recognized for the first time in her career. “A waiter at our restaurant brought our check and was like, ‘I’m really excited to see ‘2 Broke Girls.’’ That was so exciting.

“Then, I was at a wedding and a girl followed me into the bathroom and she was like, ‘Are you like an actress or something?’ And I [said], ‘Oh, I’m in ‘2 Broke Girls’ which hasn’t premiered yet.’ She [said], ‘That’s what I know you from. I’m so excited to watch.’”

On the new show, Beth plays Caroline, a “Sex and The City’s” Charlotte York-styled Upper East Side princess with a twist – she’s flat broke – and hiding out from the gossip girls of Park Avenue, by laying low and waiting tables in a greasy spoon in Brooklyn.

The comedy pairs her opposite “Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist” actress Kat Dennings (she plays Max), who Beth said she bonded with during their final “chemistry” test before CBS earlier this year.

“I just remember her taking my hands, like ‘Breathe. This is gonna be great,’” Beth recounted of Kat’s inspirational words before they performed for the executives. “She was kind of like giving me a pep talk and from that point on, it was awesome.”

Beth’s Caroline and Kat’s Max aren’t fast friends on the new CBS comedy, but the two actresses themselves found out early on that they had much in common.

“We both realized that we were kind of complete nerdy kids, like super nerdy as a kid,” Beth said. “We both read ‘Sweet Valley High’ books and we both loved American Girl doll clothing.”

After a couple of one-episode appearances in “NCIS: Los Angeles” and ABC’s “Castle,” and the lead role of Heidi in 2009’s straight-to-DVD “American Pie Presents: The Book of Love,” Beth found out she won the breakout part of Caroline in the Michael Patrick King-produced and written series on Oscar Sunday.

“My mom and dad, I called them first,” she said. “My mom and dad were crying and they were super excited.”

More than just an actress, Beth has some pipes and she’s ready to employ them if asked.

“I sure hope so. MPK (Michael Patrick King) definitely knows and the writers know that I can sing,” Beth told Access. “The thing that’s great about Caroline is she comes from this background where she’s been lucky enough to have experienced everything. She speaks languages and she can dance, so I hope that we get to use some Broadway singing in there. That would be awesome.”

And Beth, who personally feels like a mix of “Charlotte mostly, with a little bit of Carrie [Bradshaw] thrown in there,” wouldn’t mind a cameo from one of Michael Patrick’s “SATC” Fab Four if things go well.

“Oh my God, I would love to see that. I hope so,” she said.

In the meantime, the Rising Star is just ready for people to finally be able to tune in.

“I’m so excited for people to see it. We’ve been shooting now for a month and a half so we’ve done five or six episodes and I’m just so excited for people to see what we’ve done,” she said. “It’s so hard when you know all the really silly and fun things that are to come. I’m really excited for all my friends and family to be able to watch it on live television.”

“2 Broke Girls” premieres Monday, September 19 at 9:30 PM on CBS. It moves to its regular time – 8:30 PM on CBS, on September 26.
