Robert Downey Jr.: Iron Man 3 Takes ‘Even More Risks’; More Sequels Planned?

Iron Man is set to unleash his repulsor blasts at maximum capacity in the third installment of the Marvel franchise.

Access Hollywood caught up with series star Robert Downey Jr. over the weekend at Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego, where he spoke about the upcoming “Iron Man 3.”

“With the success of ‘The Avengers’ we can afford to take even more risks,” he said of his next Marvel movie hitting theaters on May 3, 2013.

The actor explained that new director Shane Black has a good relationship with former helmer Jon Favreau.

“Jon and I used to call Shane Black and ask him when we were stuck on what to do with the scenes and now Shane and I call John when we are stuck,” Robert told Access.

But will there more movies about Marvel’s favorite armored hero?

“The future is uncertain,” the actor said during a panel at Comic-Con. “I’m super happy and this has been just an amazing journey.”
Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige – who appeared with Robert, Don Cheadle (James Rhodes) and Jon (executive producer of the film and stars as Happy Hogan) – also announced that more sequels are on the way for Tony Stark’s fellow Avengers.

“Thor: The Dark World” is slated for November 8, 2013 and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” hits April 4, 2014.

Also announced was “Guardians of the Galaxy,” scheduled for August 1, 2014 and test footage of Edgar Wright’s “Ant Man” (director of “Shaun of the Dead”) was shown to fans.
