Robin Williams’ Wife: Actor’s Suicide Not Because Of Depression

Robin Williams’
wife is opening up about the actor’s suicide, saying
depression was not behind the star taking his life.

“It was not depression that killed
Robin,” Robin’s widow, Susan Williams, told People. “Depression was one of let’s call
it 50 symptoms and it was a small one.”

Susan opened
up about the actor’s battle with the debilitating brain disease called Lewy Body Dementia or
Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) with the mag.

The actor’s
widow, who was married to the late Oscar winner for seven years, also spoke
with “Good Moring America’s” Amy Robach about Robin.

“It was what was going on inside of his brain—the
chemical warfare that no one knew about,” she explained.

She said that Robin exhibited signs of DLB years before he took his life.

“In November of 2013, he had a little gut pain. Next
month, it was another symptom. It was like this endless parade of symptoms and
not all of them would raise their head at once. It was like playing
Whack-a-Mole. Which symptom is it this month?” she recounted. “I
thought, ‘Is my husband a hypochondriac?’ We’re chasing it and there is no
answer. By now we tried everything.”

Susan said the actor’s Lewy Body Dementia was not
diagnosed until after he took his life.

“Lewy Body Dementia killed Robin,” she said during
her “GMA” interview. “It’s what took his life and that’s what
I’ve spent the last year trying to get to the bottom of.”

The actor’s widow said she and Robin did not know the exact
diagnosis prior to his death, but they knew something was wrong.

“He was aware of it. He was keeping it together as best
as he could, but the last month he could not. It was like the dam broke.”
she said, explaining that she believes Robin taking his own life was his
way of taking control. “I think he was just saying no and I don’t blame
him one bit.”

After the actor was found unconscious, Susan rushed to their
home to be with him.

“I got to tell him I forgive you with all my
heart,” she explained. “You’re the bravest man I’ve ever known.”

Looking back on her relationship with the star, Susan is
still filled with love for Robin.

“It’s the best love I ever dreamed of. You know, it’s
what I always dreamed a love would be,” she said, adding, “My favorite
movie of Robin Williams was Robin Williams being a human being, not an actor –
the best movie in the world.”
