Romeo Talks DWTS & Being Asked To Star In Tyler Perry’s Latest Movie: ‘I Thought I Was Getting Punk’d’

Romeo’s career is heating up!

After taking on the ballroom during Season 12 of “Dancing with the Stars,” the entertainer will soon be seen on the big screen in “Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection,” and the 22-year-old star said he couldn’t believe his luck when he got the call from Tyler.

“Tyler, they actually gave me a call [and said], ‘We actually want you to be a lead in the movie,’” Romeo told AccessHollywood.com of his excited shock when he received the casting call from the media mogul. “I thought I was getting punk’d, honestly. I was like, ‘Am I getting punk’d right now? Tyler Perry calling for me to be the lead?!’

“But that definitely shows that with hard work, everything pays off,” he added.

After 12 years in the entertainment business, Romeo – who is currently making women swoon on VH1’s “Single Ladies” – is thrilled to have had the opportunity to learn from Tyler.

“Acting is what I love doing and just to be a part of this movie — I think this is the best Madea [film] yet — and just to work with Tyler Perry, that was someone I always wanted to work with,” he said. “[He’s] from New Orleans, he been through the struggle, I think he’s a big inspiration for this generation. I’m just honored and blessed.”

As for his “Dancing with the Stars” career, Romeo said he’d be hesitant to return for the All-Stars edition.

“That’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, so it’d be a lot of consideration and thinking,” he said, adding that he’d like to see “DWTS” alums Kirstie Alley and Chelsea Kane return.

Catch Romeo in “Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection” – in theaters today.

“Single Ladies” airs Mondays at 9 PM on VH1.
