Sarah Ferguson Shares Regrets Over Not Being Invited To Royal Wedding, Says Diana Would Have Been Proud Of Sons

Sarah Ferguson is still a member of Britain’s Royal Family, and she admitted to Oprah Winfrey that it stung when she wasn’t invited to the nuptials of Prince William and his bride, Catherine.

“I think what I felt was… I went through the phase of feeling so totally worthless and, ‘Quite right they didn’t invite me! Why would they invite me after I…’” Sarah trailed off in a clip released by “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” promoting Wednesday’s episode.

Sarah famously was in Thailand for William and Kate’s big day, a location she traveled to after not receiving an invite, but despite being out of sight, she still longed to be with daughters Beatrice and Eugenie as they prepared to hit Westminster Abbey in their now infamous attire – a wild hat on Beatrice and a couture dress on Eugenie.

“It was so difficult, because I wanted to be there with my girls and to be getting them dressed and to go as a family,” Sarah told Oprah. “And also, it was so hard because the last bride up that aisle was me and I knew all those feelings.”

Sarah and Prince Andrew married at Westminster Abbey in 1986 — they divorced a decade later in 1996.

Despite their split, Sarah said her ex-husband, the Duke of York, Prince Andrew, kept her involved in their daughters’ wedding preparations and the spirit of Will and Kate’s big day.

“When Andrew went with the girls, we were talking all morning and he was saying, ‘It’s OK. Just remember, we had such a good day. Our wedding was so perfect,’” Fergie recounted. “We’re such a unit together. He made me feel very part of the day on April 29.”

The Duchess went on to say that although she was excluded from the wedding, it allowed her to have an extra special bond with the late Princess Diana, William’s mother.

“I think Diana would be so proud of her son — of both of them. They did a great job and I sort of really love the feeling that sort of Diana and I — we both weren’t there, but I’m here to say how proud she would have been,” Sarah said. “And Kate looked utterly beautiful.”
