‘Saturday Night Live’: Melissa McCarthy Portrays Press Secretary Sean Spicer In Blistering Sketch

Melissa McCarthy got political for a surprise appearance on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend.

The comedy star portrayed White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer in an explosive sketch, looking nearly unrecognizable in an ill-fitting suit and wispy blond wig.

McCarthy maintained a combative and exasperated demeanor while in character, as her impression parodied Spicer’s infamously contentious relationship with the media.

“I know that myself and the press have gotten off to a rocky start,” McCarthy as Spicer shouted, kicking off a mock briefing. “When I say ‘rocky start,’ I mean it in the sense of ‘Rocky’ the movie, because I came out here to punch you in the face. And also I don’t talk so good.”

McCarthy continued, issuing a roundabout apology as a visibly angry Spicer.

“I’d like to begin today by apologizing on behalf of you, to me, for how you have treated me these last two weeks,” McCarthy as Spicer said, pointing at the room of stunned-looking journalists. “And that apology is not accepted.”

In a string of increasingly unhinged behavior, McCarthy’s faux-Spicer went on to chew and spit out a handful of gum, use stuffed animals and other props to convey his point, and spray soapy water at the crowd with a squirt gun.

Eventually, “Spicer” picked up the lectern and shoved bystanders out of frustration.

The eight-minute bit also featured host Kristen Stewart and cast members Bobby Moynihan, Cecily Strong and more as bewildered reporters, asking questions about such topics as the controversial immigration ban and senior Trump advisor Steve Bannon’s appointment to the National Security Council.

As of Sunday morning, neither Spicer nor President Trump had weighed in on the sketch or McCarthy’s performance.

Trump has previously taken to Twitter to slam Alec Baldwin’s “SNL” portrayal of him, which the actor reprised in Saturday’s cold open.
