Showrunner Considering Name Change For Courteney Cox’s ‘Cougar Town’: ‘Friends With Beverages’?

“Cougar Town” might be getting a name change.

Members of the show’s cast and crew confirmed on Twitter over the weekend that they are once again considering renaming the Courteney Cox fronted sitcom in an attempt to woo viewers put off by the show’s title.

“Ok. Guys. New title suggestions for CougarTown? I think [showrunner Bill Lawrence] is really seriously gonna do it this time,” Busy Philipps, who plays one of Courteney’s best friend’s on the series, Laurie, Tweeted on Friday.

“Honestly, I think if you change it, it should be totally different. Not even reminiscent of Cougartown,” she continued, addressing Lawrence. “Go for it! Seriously.”

Although some of his Tweet’s have since been deleted, Lawrence suggested over the weekend on his own Twitter account (@VDOOZER) that the show needs more viewers to survive next season and he fears the current show name is putting off potential watchers.

“the title suggests [a] show they would hate,” he wrote.

Dozens of fans contributed suggestions to help the cause over the weekend.

One option already getting the thumbs up from fans was “Friends with Beverages,” a nod to both Cox’s former NBC comedy and the large quantities of wine the gang consumes during each episode of “Cougar Town.”

Meanwhile, Christa Miller, formerly of “Scrubs,” who plays Ellie, Courteney’s other best friend on “Cougar Town” (and is married to Lawrence), had a suggestion of another kind.

“I think the show should be called, ‘Color Me Christa,’” she wrote.
