Stars Gaze At Florence And The Machine, Temper Trap At KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas

An eclectic collection of celebrities, including Drew Barrymore, Joe Jonas and “Modern Family’s” Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, hit the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, as radio station KROQ presented their Almost Acoustic Christmas concert.

The annual show, which brings together bands and artists who made an impact on music over the year (like Phoenix, Vampire Weekend and Brandon Flowers), drew a capacity crowd and tons of star fans, including late night host Jimmy Kimmel (who used to work for the radio station), Olympic gold medalist Shaun White, “Glee” newcomer Darren Criss and “Gossip Girl’s” Jessica Szohr.

While the celebs were plentiful, it was the music that took center stage, particularly the haunting sounds of one of the biggest breakout outfits of the year – Best New Artist Grammy nominee Florence and The Machine.

The group, led by Brit redhead Florence Welch, was late to the event, having flown straight from a performance at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert the night before in Oslo, Norway. Despite the lengthy trek, there wasn’t an ounce of exhaustion in the group’s performance, with beauty Florence letting her haunting voice light up the amphitheatre on the thunderous “Drumming Song.”

It was a dramatic performance, something noticed by Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who Tweeted as the band performed “Dog Days Are Over,” noting the redhead added to her majestic set with a prop.

“Florence and the Machine offers up high drama. I mean, she travels with a small wind machine for her hair!” he Tweeted, linking to a clip of himself dancing cut. Click HERE to watch.

It wasn’t just the Brits who brought a theatrical edge to the show. Melbourne, Australian’s The Temper Trap found themselves bathed in dark red hues as they whipped out a selection of beautifully emotive and lofty songs from their 2009 album “Conditions,” each tune as good as the number that introduced them to the world – “Sweet Disposition.”

“This is our last tour for the album, so I feel a little bit contemplative,” bassist Jonathon Aherne told AccessHollywood.com backstage when asked to reflect on their tremendous year.

“There’s all sorts of moments and festivals… the years are sort of muddling together,” he said when asked to pick out some highlights.

Still, the group managed to come up with one – their drummer’s run-in with a famous superstar.

“Our drummer got to meet Beyonce, that’s kind of cool,” Jonathon said. “He was brave enough to go up and shake her hand.”

The Temper Trap have just a few dates left before “Conditions” is put to rest and they’ll have a short break before continuing writing their follow-up album in London in early February (which they said, based on one song they’ve written, is “darker.”)

Before they hit the studio though, the band has some travel plans.

“It’s holiday time,” frontman Dougy Mandagi told Access of his upcoming vacation to Bali.

“I’m gonna go spear fishing and all sorts of stuff like that,” Jonathon added of his break plans in the Bahamas.
