Stephen Colbert To Make Big Screen Debut In Hobbit Trilogy

It looks like Stephen Colbert might be headed to Middle Earth.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “Colbert Report” host will make his big screen acting debut with a small role in Peter Jackson’s upcoming “Hobbit” trilogy.

Colbert, a self-proclaimed J.R.R. Tolkien fan, revealed during an interview with Playboy that he had the opportunity to visit the film’s New Zealand set last year.

“I flew out and watched them shoot some scenes and went to some locations,” he said. “I saw a 25-minute cut, and it was amazing. Jackson knows I’m a big fan of the films.”

Although it has not been revealed what Colbert’s role will be in the epic fantasy adventure, it has been confirmed that he will not appear in the first of the films “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” which is set to hit theaters on December 14. The first film in the trilogy stars Martin Freeman, Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom.

Colbert’s fans will have to wait until the release of “The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug” in December 13, 2013 or “The Hobbit: There and Back Again” set for July 18, 2014 to catch the host’s big break.
