‘The Originals’: Joseph Morgan On Klaus & Elijah Going ‘Good Cop, Bad Cop’ Against Kol & Finn

The Mikaelson brothers were reunited on The CW’s “The Originals” on Monday night, and Klaus and Elijah have some dirty tricks up their sleeves as they work to get Kol and Finn to spill Esther’s plans.

“For the first time in this show, we’ve got all four brothers in the same room, so I think the idea is to learn what we can from them about Esther and her motives and to do that we only need one of them to talk,” Joseph said on Tuesday, after Warner Bros. flew AccessHollywood.com to the show’s Atlanta, Ga. set, where they made us their guests, during a reporter studio visit.

“So, I think that’s the nice kind of threat that we can pose to them… like, ‘Only one of you has to comply, the other one we don’t need. So who’s it gonna be?’ And you’ll see we separate them and we try and get to each of them in turn, rather than keeping them in the same room and there’s a bit of good cop, bad cop that goes on as well, which was really fun to film,” he added.

Asked by one reporter during the set visit, which brother (Klaus or Elijah) was playing which role (good cop and bad cop), Joseph quipped, “Who do you think?” with a smile.

Esther’s plans involve Leah Pipes’ Cami, who was taken by the Mikaelson mom at the end of Monday night’s episode.

“He’s not gonna like it, in short,” Joseph told reporters when asked about Klaus’ reaction in next week’s episode, when his character finds out what’s happened to Cami. “He’s protective over Cami, I think, because of the time they’ve spent together. She’s sort of really proved herself to have a good understanding of his complexities.

“She understands the darker side of him and the motives behind it, rather than writing him off as an evil man or something like that, which would be very easy to do, which a lot of people did, I think, when he joined ‘Vampire Diaries,’ and hopefully we’re just bringing them ’round bit by bit,” Joseph continued. “So, he has that bond with her and he, again, is protective over her. I think he’s just — at his core, he’s a guy who will do very, very bad things for good reasons to protect the people he cares about and he loves and she is within that circle, definitely, as is Marcel as is Hayley, Rebekah, Elijah.”

Next week’s episode, titled “The Brothers That Care Forgot,” will also bring Rebekah (Claire Holt), the Mikaelsons’ sister back to the show. Joseph suggested that when Klaus and Rebekah finally see each other again, they will continue to be on good terms.

“The last time they saw each other was when he handed over Hope, and that was a pretty emotional moment. I think there was definitely some resentment and some tension between them before that when she left and he told her, ‘I’m gonna let you leave, but you have to go or I’m gonna kill you.’ And so I think having seen her since then [and] had that emotional moment handing over the baby, I think there’s more of an understanding between them and like anyone who has those huge flashes of anger, he’s had a bit of time to calm down now and to catch his breath and he really does love his sister and he does — their relationship is something, I believe, he needs in his life,” Joseph said.

And from what Joseph said, it sounded like Klaus might see another familiar face.

“Obviously, as she’s the one taking care of Hope, Klaus maybe gets to see another friendly face that he’s been missing for a while,” Joseph added.

“The Originals” continues Monday at 8/7c on The CW.
