The Originals: What’s Next For Marcel, Elijah, Hayley, Klaus & More

A host of irons were thrust into the fire at the end of last week’s “The Originals” episode and at a recent screening for TV writers, producers hinted at where the stories are going for the cast of characters.

Hayley & Elijah:

They started bonding at the start of the season, but then there was that nasty dagger incident with his brother, Klaus, that kept Elijah away from Hayley, the werewolf carrying his nephew/niece. Now back home, and coming to her rescue with a milk carton — Elijah and Hayley seem to have developed even more chemistry.

“There’s definitely something,” Executive Producer Julie Plec said of the chemistry between the pair. “Elijah, as we know, is a good protector and tends to be drawn to people… in spite of himself. … I think he believes he cares deeply about that child that she’s carrying and… [he is maybe] starting to have his own level of concern that it’s more than just the child that he is protecting and caring for. It’s definitely not a good thing.”

Klaus

Klaus caught some of Elijah’s expressions over Hayley, and while he may not be romantically interested in her, it appears he doesn’t want anyone else to be either.

“It’s very clear that he’s very territorial that he likes what’s his to remain his, so I have a feeling that it will stir up a lot of conflicted emotions for him as well, because rational or irrational, he too, never felt properly parented, loved or taken care of. So when he starts to feel his family slipping away from him, or what he claims as his ‘own’ finding their interests elsewhere, he tends to act out in ways that are not necessarily the most mature or appropriate,” Julie said. “He will definitely have an opinion.”

Marcel

Last time Marcel was on screen, he discovered Klaus had been lying to him about where he was living, and he discovered where he was holing up — a place Marcel was forced to work at when he was a boy.

So, what’s next for Marcel? “For really Marcel, it’s gonna be more like, ‘All right… The first level of suspicion has been raised.’ And he clearly knows that this person whose been buddying up to him all along isn’t necessarily on the up and so it’s just kind of the beginning of the next stretch of Marcel trying to figure out what Klaus’ game is and where he fits into all of it,” Julie said.

Rebekah

She was cruising away from New Orleans in a convertible, on the road to starting her own life away from her brothers when Rebekah got a worrisome call from Elijah letting her know Hayley is missing. Now, Rebekah has a choice.

“Rebekah’s predicament is she honestly believes that everything she wants is outside of the family… in terms of peace, harmony, happiness, sanctity. … She really believes that, ‘If I can just break free of this, I can have… all I’ve ever wanted, which is a life that I am in complete control of,’” Julie said. “And she’s gonna have to… come to terms with… you can’t escape this group. No matter what you did, the pull of family is always gonna be stronger than your own [desires]. Given what we know about Rebecca, I would safely guess it’s not the last we’ll see of her.”

Cami

She may be compelled by Klaus to forget a lot of things (and feelings) when she’s going through the motions of her day to day life, but when she’s around Klaus, and remembers things again, Cami will prove to be a strong match for the hybrid.

“She’s pissed and interestingly enough, though she’s compelled by Klaus to forget these things as he separates from her… she’s not gonna let him off the hook from it and she’s going to continue to do anything and everything she can to break free of this sort of bond that he’s created between the two of them that’s controlling her,” Julie said. “She’s not a weak little wilting flower, so she’s probably going to have a little bit of success at it.”

“The Originals” airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
