Tom Cruise On Showing Off His Cheeks & Undergoing Dance Training For Rock Of Ages

Tom Cruise went all in to play ‘80s rocker Stacee Jaxx in “Rock of Ages,” and the actor explained to Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush, why he committed to the role wholeheartedly.

“I just love making movies and I want to entertain people and it’s something I’ve never had the opportunity to do,” he said of donning tight leather pants and hitting the arena stage in the movie. “As a fan of movies, I love a bunch of different genres and if you look at the films I make, I make a lot of different kinds of movies and that’s what I wanted to do.”

In the film, Tom gets a little cheeky – as in wearing chaps that reveal a bit of his bum.

“There’s no halfway with this character. This is the ‘80s, it’s rock and roll,” Tom laughed with Billy at the film’s Los Angeles premiere on Friday.

“The cheeks are coming out,” Billy said.

“You know? You’ve got to do it,” Tom said.

Surprisingly, Tom said he actually endured some real dance training to get in Stacee Jaxx form.

“It was just a lot of dance, lot of dancing… plus singing,” Tom told Billy. “It’s a workout just the singing lessons and then the dancing lessons. My admiration for what these guys do has gone way up. I’ve always been a fan of music, and then, to have the opportunity to sing [a] Bon Jovi song and then Def Leppard? And Axl Rose? You just think, ‘Wow, this is [what] they do every night.’ It’s pretty impressive.”

Now that he’s done rocking out, Tom is already back to work on a new project, and he revealed he’ll actually still be on the set when he turns 50 on July 3.

“I’m going to be shooting on a movie set and we’ll have the family around,” Tom said. “I love having birthdays while I’m shooting… I’m actually in the middle of shooting a film right now, so we’ll just kick back and enjoy ourselves.”

“Rock of Ages” hits theaters on June 15.
