UPDATED: 9-Year-Old Girl Killed In Arizona Shooting Spree Cousin Of ‘One Tree Hill’ Star Sophia Bush; Gwyneth Paltrow Related To Congresswoman

Saturday’s tragic Arizona shooting spree sent shockwaves through the nation, and it hit especially close to home for actress Sophia Bush — the “One Tree Hill” star has revealed that Christina Green, the 9-year-old child who was killed in the Tucson supermarket rampage, was a member of her family.

“She was my 2nd cousin… Devastating…,” the 28-year-old actress Tweeted on Sunday, in reference to a New York Times article about Christina.

“There are no words to explain what my cousin’s family is going through in Arizona,” she later added. “How can this be? Violence is never the answer…”

In a stunning twist of fate, it wasn’t the child’s first connection to tragedy — Christina was born on September 11, 2001. However, she was “proud” of her historic birthday because “it lent a grace note of hope to that terrible day,” according to the New York Times.

In addition to Sophia, the Green family has another LA connection – Christina’s father, John Green, is a supervising scout for the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to the paper.

Christina was the youngest victim of the massacre, which claimed the lives of six and injured 14, including AZ congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, the alleged target of the crime, who is reportedly in critical condition following a point-blank gunshot to the head, according to CNN.

However, Sophia isn’t the only celebrity with a tie to the shooting.

Access Hollywood has learned that Gwyneth Paltrow is related to Giffords – the Oscar winner and the Congresswoman are distant cousins.

“Although I have never had the pleasure of meeting Congresswoman Giffords, my thoughts and prayers are with her and her family as well as the other victims of this horrible act of senseless violence,” Gwyneth said in a statement released to Access Hollywood.

Many celebs took to Twitter following the horrific incident to offer their condolences and support for the victims’ families, including Danny DeVito, who Tweeted “so sad about that kiddo. praying for gabby” on Saturday.

Former two-time NFL MVP and “Dancing with the Stars” participant Kurt Warner wrote, “My prayers go out 2 all the families affected by the Tucson shooting 2day… My heart is heavy this evening, esp 4 parents of the 9yr old!”

Additionally, “Private Practice” actress Amy Brenneman sought comfort in religion, Tweeting, “Truly heartbroken about AZ. Stirs up those ole Columbine feelings. Off to church to pray. Maybe some answers there.”

“NCIS” star Pauley Perrette also expressed her sympathy, Tweeting, “Can’t imagine the pain the AZ families are in tonight. I pray for the peace that truly passes understanding. We are with you. Bless.”
