US Women’s Soccer Team Reveals Gold Medal Celebration: Popping Champagne Like ‘Rock Stars’

The U.S. women’s soccer team took home the gold medal on Thursday, beating Japan 2-1, and Access Hollywood’s Michelle Beadle spoke to the team about their big victory at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.

“One of my favorite moments was not out partying with basketball guys or anything like that, but we walk into the locker room… a locker room that’s been used by some of the greatest footballers in the world,” Hope said. “Gold medals around our necks and we walked in and there’s champagne and we started popping the bottles.

“We took our showers with champagne bottles,” she continued. “That is when we felt like rock stars!”

There were still signs of the team’s celebratory night as they did press on Friday.

“We showered real quick and then I realized when I got here, I still had the stamp from the club last night,” forward Alex Morgan said. “I was like, ‘Oh shoot, I need to rub this off.’”

Midfielder Carli Lloyd, who scored both of the team’s goals against Japan, was happy to cement her position and importance with the team.

“I wanted to prove something this Olympics” she explained. “I came into it…kind of unsure of my position and I wanted to prove to everybody that I deserved to be on the field. I got to celebrate with these amazing teammates.”

The team’s captain, Christie Rampone, became overwhelmed with emotion during her chat with Access.

“I’m actually… this is the first time I’m actually getting emotional,” Christie said, choking up.

“She has proven time and time and time again that she deserves this,” teammate Abby Wambach said of Christie. “She is our captain and we couldn’t love her anymore.”

Midfielder Megan Rapinoe added, “She’s our Captain America.”
