What Are The ‘High School Musical’ Kids Up To?

Since Access thinks the 7 to 14 set is pretty special, we’re taking a peek at what tween faves, the stars of ?High School Musical,? have been up to following the chart-busting success of their Disney Channel movie, DVD and soundtrack album.

So what’s next? “HSM” on Broadway?

Actually, the next movie is just around the corner, ?High School Musical 2,? due in early 2007. Access has learned that the sequel?s plot revolves around a ?summer getaway?! Could Zac Efron and Vanessa Anne Hudgens be channeling Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello?

Ashley Tisdale, who played the scheming Sharpay Evans, gets our first grade — a big fat “A” for signing a music contract with Warner Brothers Records.

According to Luke Burland, director of publicity for Warner Bros. Records, Ashley will begin working on her album immediately. Warner hopes to release Ashley?s song stylings in early 2007.

And Ashley continues to make little girls’ and parents’ dreams of finding the perfect babysitter come true in her role as Maddie Fitzpatrick on the Disney Channel?s ?The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.?

As for today?s tween version of David Cassidy, Zac Efron, aka Troy Bolton — he also gets an “A” for focusing on his acting career.

According to Zac?s Web site, www.zefron.com <http://www.zefron.com>, Zac?s independent movie, ?The Derby Stallion,? should be released soon on DVD.

?If You Lived Here, You?d Be Home By Now,? a FOX pilot is in the can but doesn’t yet have a release date, according to Efron’s site.

And for those tweenettes who mourn the passing of Zac?s WB show, ?Summerland,? dry your eyes. The N cable network, billed as a ?nighttime network for teens,? will be re-running the popular sand & sea soapfest.

What about Vanessa, the Betty to Ashley?s Veronica?

Access has learned that Vanessa, who played Gabriella Montez, is putting together a record deal, having talked to three different labels, including Disney?s Hollywood Records.

We think that deserves a “B+”!

The wildly popular Corbin Bleu, who played Chad Danforth, will be in a new movie called “Jump” along with his Dad, who auditioned for a role! We think he gets an “A-”.

As for cutie Lucas Grabeel, who went to the same high school as Brad Pitt, he?s just been laying low, riding the success of “HSM.” We give him an “B” but only because we want to see more of ?Ryan Evans.?
