Year In Review: Access Hollywood’s Top 5 Female Stars Of 2008

On Thursday, Access Hollywood revealed the Top 5 Male Stars of 2008. Today, we look at the five fierce females who made the most impact, including one star, who seems to outdo herself every year.

Miley Cyrus made her debut on our year-end list at number five. The 16-year-old singer and Disney star had whopping 57 stories on our show. And she capped off the year with another high, becoming the youngest Golden Globe nominee of 2008.

Miley also made news with her rumored romance with 20-year-old model Justin Gaston. Miley first spoke of him at her sweet 16-birthday part at Disneyland.

“He’s here,” Miley confirmed to Access on the big day. “He’s celebrating with the rest of my friends, so that’ll be very nice.”

But the majority of our Miley stories concerned her provocative Vanity Fair pics.

For the third year in a row, Lindsay Lohan made our list. Virtually scandal free in 2008, Lindsay came in at number four with 66 stories.

Dominating our Lindsay coverage was her romance with club DJ Samantha Ronson. Lindsay told us how she and Samantha witnessed Barack Obama’s history making win together.

“Samantha and I were racing back to the house to like, see when it finally, when the numbers were actually up,” Lindsay told Access’ Maria Menounos earlier this year.

Angelina Jolie also made our list for the third year in a row, coming in at number three with 70 stories.

Thirty-five of those focused on her relationship with Brad Pitt. In February, she confirmed pregnancy rumors, hitting the red carpet with a very visible baby bump, but it took a Jack Black slip of the tongue to reveal she was carrying twins.

“You guys are going to have as many as [the] Brady Bunch, when you have these. Right?” Jack said.

“So is that confirmed? Is it two?” a correspondent from NBC’s the “Today” show asked.

“Yeah. Yeah, we confirmed,” Angelina said. “Jack just confirmed it, actually.”

“Is that true?” a confused Jack asked.

“Yeah, you did,” Angelina replied.

Angie’s twins – Knox and Vivienne generated 21 Access story hits.

Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie’s divorce placed Madonna at number two on our list with 73 stories.

In July, rumors of a Madonna affair with New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez surfaced. And, they officially filed for divorce in October.

A settlement was reached on Monday, in which Guy is set to net millions of dollars.

But it wasn’t all scandal. Madonna wrote, produced and narrated the documentary, “I Am Because We Are,” about the harsh plight of the Malawian people.

And musically she came on strong with her CD, “Hard Candy,” and the highly successful “Sticky & Sweet” tour.

But, for the second year in a row, Britney took the top honor – 133 stories were devoted to her in ’08 — 30 of which centered on her emotional breakdown, and losing custody of sons Jayden James and Sean Preston in January.

“I sit there and look back and I think I’m a smart person what the hell was I thinking?” Britney said in her recent documentary for MTV, “For The Record.”

But 2008 ends better than it began for Britney – with a comeback. Her new No. 1 album, “Circus,” was released December 2nd, the same day her friends threw her a 27th birthday bash in New York City.
