Carrie Underwood Announces New Single ‘Smoke Break’ & Album Release Date

Carrie Underwood is ready for a “Smoke Break,” and hopes fans are, too!

The country superstar posted a Facebook video on Thursday to announce the release of her new song and how to hear it.

“I really hope you guys love it, because I’m so excited about it,” Carrie said of “Smoke Break,” which she revealed is the lead single for her upcoming album, “Storyteller.”

The track already has plenty going for it.

Carrie co-wrote “Smoke Break” with the same team behind her February hit “Little Toy Guns,” and said she thinks listeners will respond to this newest collaboration with similar enthusiasm.

“The song itself is just kind of one of those story songs that I feel like everybody can relate to, about how life is so hectic,” she said. “It’s so nice when, if and when, you actually get to kind of step away for a second. And we all need that. We all need that time to ourselves to get to take a break.”

“Smoke Break” has already hit country radio airwaves, and will be available digitally via Apple Music on Thursday evening.

Carrie took part in a Facebook Q&A following her announcement, and told fans that she’s happy with how “Storyteller” turned out. When asked if the album is her favorite one yet, the singer explained how each project takes on its own special meaning.

“Right now it is!” the 32-year-old said. “I feel like each album represents a time in my life, so it would be hard to pick one album or song or video, etc as my absolute all-time favorite, but this album is really amazing, if I may say so myself!”

The seven-time Grammy winner went on to say that the album showcases a more straightforward country influence than some of her more pop-centric work, and she was ready to embrace the change.

“I feel like a lot of the songs that I wrote and gravitated to ended up being more traditional and ‘twangy’ than anything I have ever done before,” she said of the “Storyteller” sound. “I just went with it! I love the story telling aspect of Country music…it’s one of the reasons I always wanted to be a part of it.”

Fans will likely have plenty to say about “Smoke Break,” but Carrie said the song has already gotten the thumbs-up from a special listener.

“He has,” she wrote, when asked if her husband, Mike Fisher, has heard the new single. “It is Mike Approved!”

Carrie’s fifth album, “Storyteller,” will drop on Oct. 23.
