Debra Messing Cast In ‘Dirty Dancing’ Remake

Debra
Messing’s dancing shoes are about to get a little dirty.

The
“Mysteries of Laura” star has been cast in ABC and Lionsgate TV’s
“Dirty Dancing” remake, Access Hollywood confirmed on Thursday.

According to a press release, Debra will play “meticulous 1960s housewife”
Marjorie Houseman in the three-hour musical event, executive produced by Allison Shearmur and original “Dirty
Dancing” scribe Eleanor Bergstein.

Debra’s character, the mother of Abigail Breslin’s Baby,
“takes great pride in her family” and is trying to “rekindle her
romance with her workaholic husband” while on a family vacation in the
Catskills, the release read.

Like its 1987 predecessor, the upcoming special will center
on Baby as she “gets swept off her feet by a handsome, working-class dance
instructor,” who has yet to be cast.

Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze famously portrayed the
star-crossed lovers in the now-classic period romance, likely leaving fans
tapping their toes with anticipation over who will join Abigail for the time of
her life.

Tony-winning “Hamilton” choreographer Andy
Blankenbuehler is lending his moves for the production, while “American
Horror Story” producer Jessica Scharzer is adapting the script.

This updated “Dirty Dancing” won’t be Debra’s first
musical experience. The actress co-starred as a composer on NBC’s Broadway
drama “Smash.”
